Gas fitter in court over deaths

A gas fitter has appeared in court over the deaths of two pensioners found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Peter Tongue, 59, who is charged with two counts of unlawful killing, did not enter a plea.

Margaret Powell and Thomas Morgan, who was visiting his friend, were found dead at her home in Pendre Close, Brecon, in December 2006.

Mr Tongue, of Warren View, Llanspyddid, Brecon, will appear at Cardiff Crown Court next month.

Mr Tongue spoke only to confirm his name during a brief hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.

He is charged with the unlawful killings of the two on the grounds of negligent work.

Mr Tongue is also charged with eight counts of failure in his duty to ensure that others are not exposed to risk to their health or safety.

Mr Tongue was released on unconditional bail until a plea and case management hearing next month.
