Map of Malaysia

A man from north Wales has died following an accident on an oil rig off Malaysia.

Ioan Kendrick, originally from Llanrwst, Conwy, had worked on oil rigs abroad for a number of years.

Mr Kendrick, who was in his mid 40s, is understood to have died on Monday and it is believed his body will be returned to Wales for his funeral.

Mr Kendrick lived in Penang, Malaysia with his Filipino wife and their two young children, a daughter and son.

He also had a home in Glan Conwy.

Following his death the Foreign Office has said Mr Kendrick's next of kin have been informed and are receiving consular assistance.
