Two hurt in light aircraft crash

Two men are being treated for their injuries after a light aircraft crashed in a field.

An RAF helicopter was called to airlift the two men to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor following the incident.

It is believed the light aircraft came down in a field in Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr near Cerrigydrudion in Conwy.

The extent of the men's injuries is not known. Nearby houses have not been affected. The cause of the crash is being investigated.

It is believed the two injured men, understood to be French, were the pilot and passenger of the aircraft, and had been trapped in the wreckage for some time before they were freed.

Firefighters from Corwen, Betws Y Coed, Wrexham, Llangollen and Deeside were called to the scene.

It followed a call to the North Wales Fire Service control room at 1421 BST reporting that two people were trapped on board the aircraft.

The area of the crash is described as at the edge of a woodland in a remote location. The hospital the two men were taken to is more than 40 miles away.
