Gavin and Stacey - and Charlotte?

Gavin and Stacey cast

You may have heard of BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey - so how about Gavin and Stacey and Gavin and Charlotte?

Rugby star Gavin Henson and singer and chat show host Charlotte Church say they would love to appear in the show.

The celebrity Welsh couple would not have far to travel, as much of the series is set in Barry, under 20 miles from their Vale of Glamorgan home.

The 22-year-old, who is pregnant with their second child, said: "We'd die to be in Gavin and Stacey."

She has even suggested a possible storyline involving Stacey's best friend, the down-to-earth Nessa, played by the series' co-writer, Ruth Jones.

Nessa regularly mentions her mysterious past life and supposed encounters with the famous, from John Prescott to Gladys Knight's backing group, the Pips.

"Actually we need a new action hero - there's never been a Welsh action hero, has there?"

The Cardiff-born singer said: "Maybe it could turn out that Nessa knows us from way back. We love it so much."

She has already made a successful transition from child soprano to pop star, and then to TV presenter with her Channel Four chat show.

Wales and British Lion rugby star Gavin, 26, told OK magazine: "It would be brilliant. I would love to be an actor."

Charlotte, mother to nine-month-old Ruby, said: "Actually we need a new action hero - there's never been a Welsh action hero, has there?"

"They have become big fans of Gavin and Stacey and it is a local show so it would be perfect for them.

"Who knows, we might see them on the Christmas special."

Recently traders in Barry reported business has been boosted because of the show's popularity.

The show, which features the Essex-south Wales romance between Gavin from Billericay and Stacey from Barry, has been a runaway success.

The BBC3 show beat the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and Britain's Got Talent to the audience award, voted for by the public, in this year's Baftas.

Co-writer James Corden, who plays Gavin's best friend Smithy, also picked up the best comedy performance award at the Baftas in April.

Ruth Jones said at the time: "We didn't think at all that we were going to win this.

"Gavin and Stacey really seems to have been taken into people's hearts and we're really thrilled about it."

Corden said on the night the pair were working on a Christmas special, but he did not know if a third series would be made.
