Beach hut set to fetch up to £70k

A beach hut in Gwynedd with views over Cardigan Bay is to be auctioned next week with a guide price of £70,000.

The detached hut, which is in the middle of a row, is on a sand dune at the highly-sought after location of Abersoch, on the Llyn Peninsula.

It is made of corrugated sheeting and wood and measures just 13ft (4m) by nine feet (2.7m).

One local businessman said he was not surprised and said house prices were "out of sync" with the rest of Wales.

Beresford Adams Countrywide, which is marketing the hut, said the sale was a "rare opportunity".

The 'bathing hut' will be auctioned on 2 May in Llandudno, Conwy.

Beresford Adams said the hut was on a "wonderful stretch of sandy beach which overlooks Cardigan Bay to the St Tudwal's Islands."

Abersoch beach huts are in great demand, despite having no running water or electricity.

In 2005, a strip of Abersoch beach - with planning permission for a beach hut - fetched £63,000 at auction after it was advertised for £50,000.

Local businessman Nigel Bourne, who runs Abersoch Boatyard, said he was not surprised at the prices.

He added: "We are on the Gulf stream, we are sheltered and it's a bit like Lake Geneva - you can see Snowdon and the snow but we are protected and we have huge, shallow beaches.

"This little area is out of sync with house prices with the rest of Wales.

"Generations have been coming with their families for years. It is such a family resort."
