Armed unit deployed after theft

A theft at a shop in Bridgend in which a man demanded money from the safe is being investigated by police.

They are appealing for witnesses to the incident at around 1020 GMT on Friday at the Van Housten shop at the McArthur Glen outlets.

The man, described as black, stocky and about 6ft, also claimed he had a weapon in his pocket. The armed response unit was deployed as a precaution.

The shopkeeper handed over a quantity of money and the suspect ran off.

Appeal over man's body in vehicle

Police are appealing for information over the death of a man whose body was found in a vehicle in Ammanford.

The body of David Williams, 56, who was from the Ammanford area, was discovered in a vehicle parked in Quay Street on Wednesday afternoon.

A South Wales Police spokesman said officers wanted to trace witnesses to Mr Williams's last movements.

The spokesman said death was not being treated as suspicious and the coroner had been informed.

Boy, 16, jailed for raping girl

A schoolboy aged 16 has been jailed for two years for raping a 15-year-old classmate.

Cardiff Crown Court heard the boy invited the schoolgirl to his house in Bridgend after classes to listen to music and then carried out the assault.

He had denied even having sex with the girl but DNA samples proved they had intercourse.

The judge described the boy as "promiscuous" with a history of sexual activity with young girls.

Dead sheep claim is investigated

The RSPCA is investigating a claim that a number of dead sheep have been found at a farm near Llanidloes in Powys.

The charity was brought in by Dyfed-Powys Police after a woman walking her dog reported her concerns on Saturday.

The RSPCA is appealing for anyone with information to contact their cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.

Powys County Council's trading standards department is also involved in the investigation.

Police are looking for thieves who stole ten birds from an aviary in Wrexham.

They say the thieves forced their way into the aviary, in a house in the town's Stansty area, and took the animals.

The raid is thought to have happened between 2100 on Friday night and 0900 the following morning.
