100 evacuated after pig farm fire

Warehouse on Penarth Road Around 100 people have been evacuated from their homes in Blaina, Blaenau Gwent, after a fire at an old pig farm.

Firefighters were concerned that gas cylinders at the farm in Maeshafod, could explode and a number of homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Many residents stayed with relatives and friends, while others were put up at Abertillery sports club.

Meanwhile, another fire at a warehouse near the post office on Penarth Road, Cardiff, closed the A4160 both ways.

Police also closed the Maeshafod road in Torfaen, both ways. Neither road had been re-opened at 0700 BST on Friday.

The blaze in Maeshafod was being treated as suspicious and four local people - two adults and two youths - had been arrested in connection with the incident.
