Quantum physicist fired by Sugar

Dr Sophie Kain, 32, from Llanellen, Monmouthshire, was fired after struggling with the task to sell lollipops to children at London Zoo.

She said that being in the boardroom had been "a phenomenal experience".

But Dr Kain said the BBC show had taught her that she "valued her principles more than money".

The programme sees 14 contestants try to win a £100,000 contract to work for computer tycoon Sir Alan.

Dr Kain said she had not believed in selling lollipops to kids at the zoo and said she was "quite pleased" with the manner of her dismissal.

"I thought what we were asked to do was a little bit intimidating," she said.

Delivering his final verdict, Sir Alan said: "This is the real world love, this is not your scientific protons and neutrons.

"I'm wondering, have I got another one here who should really stick to what they know? ... You're fired!"

After her exit, Dr Kain said: "I've learnt from the programme that I value my principles more than money. I'm never going to be rich but I am going to be successful."

'All-rounder'

She added that she had also learnt a lot from seeing herself on TV, and that she relished her time in the boardroom, where candidates are grilled before one is eliminated.

"I didn't realise how incredibly posh I sound. I might take elocution lessons to dumb my accent down!" she said.

"The boardroom is a phenomenal experience. I know this sounds weird, but I'd prefer to be in the boardroom with Sir Alan than be at the Royal Ballet.

"I can save up for a ticket for the ballet but being in the boardroom with Sir Alan is a one-off. Like it or lump it, you will learn something about yourself."

Dr Kain now plans to set up her own company, but backed fellow contestant Katie to win.

"If Sir Alan is looking for an all rounder, including sales and leadership savvy, she's the one."
