Wales and Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain has been named am.pm Welsh Politician of the Year.
Mr Hain won the award from the BBC Wales' TV programme after taking the Government of Wales Bill through Parliament and working to restore power sharing in Stormont.
He said he was "extremely grateful" for the award and "rather surprised" by it.
Viewers voted the opening of the new Welsh assembly building, the Senedd, the political moment of the year.
Mr Hain beat off competition for the Welsh Politician of the Year title from shadow Welsh secretary Cheryl Gillan and Plaid Cymru MP and anti-Iraq war campaigner Adam Price.
Three assembly politicians were also nominated - Blaenau Gwent by-election victor, Trish Law, presiding officer Dafydd Elis-Thomas and minister for finance, local government and public services Sue Essex.
Accepting the award Mr Hain said: "What it shows is, despite the point scoring you get in this job, despite the fact that the media stories wash in and out every day, actually it is what you achieve that really matters."
There was compensation for Mrs Law, who won Local Campaigner of the Year, and Lord Elis-Thomas, named Most Outspoken Politician.
This year Lord Elis-Thomas has told AMs to work harder and been involved in a bitter public row with his deputy, John Marek.
Peter Black was named Communicator of the Year for his pioneering weblog.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges and the Political Event of the Year from viewers emails, letters and texts,
The award ceremony can be seen on am.pm on BBC2 Wales from 1130 GMT on 6 December.
