Further tests on nightclub death woman

The Venue

Further tests are to be carried out to discover why a woman died after collapsing at a north Wales nightclub.

Lowri Thomas died at The Venue in Ruthin on Saturday.

Police are investigating the possibility that Miss Thomas, from Ruthin, may have been the victim of a drugs death.

Ysbyty Glan Clwyd
A post-mortem examination at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd was inconclusive and further forensic tests are being carried out.

Lowri was the daughter of Mr Nigel Thomas, who is the finance director of Denbighshire County Council and also treasurer to the North Wales Police Authority. Her mother died when she was young.

Lowri lived in Ruthin and worked at a local child nursery, where she was popular with staff, children and parents.

Mr Thomas lives at nearby Gellifor, but the family are said to be too traumatised to talk about the tragedy.

Police are trying to build up a complete picture of her movements and what Lowri did on Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Venue
Four police officers mingled at The Venue on Sunday night speaking to those who were at the club at the time of the tragedy.

Club manager Philip Hughes of Flint said that it was a terrible tragedy and he and his staff, together with the customers, had fully co-operated with the police.

"It is a small nightclub catering for the local youngsters in the area and we virtually know all our customers," Mr Hughes said.

It had been a terrible shock to learn that after she collapsed at the club and was taken to hospital that she had died, he said.

"The door staff are all fully trained not only to watch out for trouble-makers but also for any drugs and for excessive drinking."

Police said it is too early to say what caused the death.
