Police said they were no longer treating the discovery of a body found at a burnt-out car in a lane between Cardiff and Newport as suspicious.
The body of 58-year-old David Webb, from the Cardiff area, was found at the vehicle which was partially submerged in the River Rhymney, on Friday.
Gwent Police had treated the incident as suspicious and were awaiting the results of a post mortem investigation.
The car was found at Began Road in Michaelston-y-Fedw, near Newport.
Two fire crews from Cardiff attended, when the alert was raised at about 1515 BST on Friday but the blaze was almost out by the time they arrived.
The Renault Clio was found on a slipway on the River Rhymney. The front end of the vehicle was in the water.
The vehicle was towed away for forensic tests.
Began Road was closed for three hours during the recovery operation.
