A 29-year-old man was found more than five times the drink-drive limit during a crackdown by Tayside Police.

In total, 30 people were caught behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol during the two-week campaign.

A 36-year-old man arrested after a crash on the A9 near Greenloaning was the sole drug driver caught.

Police involved in the clampdown also reported 187 people for speeding, 72 for not wearing a seatbelt and 52 for using a mobile phone while driving.

Among the drug and drink drivers were 25 men and six women.

About a third of the drivers were aged 25 or under.

Ch Insp Sandy Bowman, head of road policing, said: ''I am sure that everyone shares our revulsion at the very notion that someone would drive on our roads while more than five times the legal drink-drive limit.

"There is absolutely no possibility that they could have been in a fit state to drive a vehicle.

"Thankfully they were stopped and arrested before their reckless actions caused any injury or fatality."
