Council cuts managers and costs

Stirling council HQ

Stirling Council has reduced the number of senior management posts in a move which it says has saved £300,000.

The local authority has cut the number of senior management posts from 20 to 15. The new line-up is headed by chief executive Bob Jack.

The change also sees the authority's pioneering Children's Services department disbanded.

Former Children's director David Cameron has chosen to leave the council "by mutual consent", a spokesman said.

The authority is yet to appoint a head of education, a post that will encompass part of Mr Cameron's previous brief.

Launching his new team, Mr Jack said, "This is a new way of working for Stirling Council that I firmly believe gives us the best possible chance of achieving our strategic aims and corporate improvement objectives and facing the challenges that lie ahead.

"Foremost amongst these challenges is the squeeze on public expenditure expected over the next few years and these changes, combined with other changes to the management and administrative structures agreed earlier in the year, will save a total of £3.7m in management costs."

The new posts include Communities and Culture, Economy, Employment and Youth and Social Care.

All those appointed came from within the organisation.

The new senior management structure will be effective from Monday 10 August.
