Man in court over police stabbing

A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder after a police officer was stabbed and another injured during a disturbance in Angus at the weekend.

Lyall Cameron, from Brechin, is also charged with assault, breach of the peace and having an offensive weapon.

The 23-year-old made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody following his appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court on Monday.

He is due to appear in court again on 21 July.

A 48-year-old officer with Tayside Police was taken to Ninewells Hospital following the disturbance at a flat in Montrose Street early on Saturday.

Injuries to his arm and back were not thought to be life threatening.

His 20-year-old colleague suffered minor cuts and was allowed home after treatment.
