T-goers monitored by night vision

Festival-goers at T in the Park will be monitored by a night vision camera attached to a blimp in the sky.

Extra security measures are being introduced at the festival in Balado, Kinross-shire, following a stabbing at last year's event.

Mark Morrison was knifed 11 times after going to help female friends who were being attacked by two men.

Robert Kidd, 25, from Barrhead, and John Tiffoney, also 25, from Glasgow, were jailed for nine years each.

The man in charge of policing this year's festival, Ch Supt Craig Suttie, said: "There was an isolated and dreadful incident at last year's festival which was recently dealt with by the courts.

"The resulting sentences for those responsible send a very clear message that such actions will not be tolerated.

''I can reassure everyone that safety is our number one priority for the T in the Park community and we are committed to maintaining the festival's proud reputation as a fun and safe event for all."

As well as the night vision and CCTV blimp, there will be additional police officers and stewards on patrol.

This year's festival, on 10 to 12 July, will be headlined by Kings of Leon, the Killers and Blur.
