Inquiry into student's fire death

The fire in St Andrews Street

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a Chinese student in a fire in Dundee.

Hu Tang, 27, died in a blaze at a first-floor flat in St Andrews Street on 7 June 2007.

A man and a woman were rescued from the property but Mr Hu, who was studying business at Abertay University, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An eyewitness claimed that a metal grille and steel-enforced door had prevented him going in to help.

The fatal accident inquiry will begin on 2 February at Dundee Sheriff Court.
