Dog injured by fishing equipment

Anglers have been warned not to leave fishing equipment lying beside lochs after a dog was injured in Perthshire.

The animal was being walked round the Laird's Loch at Tullybaccart when its owner noticed it was in distress.

A fishing hook was discovered embedded into its leg, with about two metres of fishing line, a bubble float and a lead weight trailing behind.

The dog had to be taken to the vets. Fishermen have been urged to rethink how they dispose of the gear.

Alan Stewart, Tayside Police wildlife and environmental crime officer, said: "Most anglers are responsible and ensure that they take any broken or damaged tackle away with them, but this incident exemplifies the resultant pain and stress that can be caused to domestic pets or wildlife by carelessness.''
