Trio cleared over electrocution

Three senior employees of a Scottish engineering firm have been cleared of neglect over the death of an electrician.

Michael Adamson, 26, from Bo'ness, died during the construction of a JJB fitness centre in Dundee in 2005.

Mitie Engineering Services (Edinburgh) Ltd remains on trial over the death.

However, at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday Sheriff Elizabeth Munro ruled that William Mitchell, Scott Wallace and Ian Storrar had no case to answer.

Mr Adamason died while attempting to connect live cables which had been marked "not in use" at the store in the Gallagher Retail Park.

Mitie Engineering, managing director Mr Mitchell, operations director Mr Wallace and project and technical services manager Mr Storrar have been on trial for more than three weeks.

The workers had denied that the alleged offence had been committed with their consent or connivance or was attributable to their neglect.

The trial against Mitie is continuing. The company denies allegations which include failing to protect the health, safety and welfare of its employees.
