Police hunt on-the-run prisoner

Michael Nicol

Police are hunting for a man who has absconded from Noranside open prison, in Angus.

Officers discovered Michael Nicol, 27, was missing from the jail at about 0100 BST.

Nicol, jailed at the High Court in Aberdeen in 2005 for assault and robbery, was transferred there from Glenochil Prison in January 2008.

He was described as 5ft 8in, with blue eyes and short fair hair and is known to have family in the Aberdeen area.

Police urged anyone who knew where he was to contact them.
