Dealers targeted in police raids

More than a dozen suspected heroin dealers have been arrested in a series of raids in Dundee.

Operation Waterloo, which has targeted the Hilltown and Stobswell areas, is part of a wider police crackdown on drug crime and anti-social behaviour.

The raids began early on Thursday, with 50 Tayside Police officers working in three teams.

The force said the operation had been months in the planning and would continue for some time.

Police said "significant quantities" of heroin and a four-figure sum of cash was seized.

About 12 suspects were arrested on Thursday, with further arrests being made on Friday.

Dundee divisional commander, Ch Supt Colin McCashey, said: "Tackling the drugs supply in this city is a top priority for me, because of the harm it does to people living in our communities.

"They are affected by it and I believe it is important for those people to see our words of intent clearly demonstrated through decisive action.

"We are determined to put the drugs suppliers before the courts. We also want to ensure that those who need help, get it."
