Man in court following stand-off

Falkirk Sheriff Court

A man has appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court in connection with an incident in Falkirk in which armed police officers were deployed.

Stuart Govan, 45, appeared on petition on two charges of breach of the peace. He made no plea or declaration.

He was arrested at Hallglen Terrace in Glen village on Sunday.

Officers from Central Scotland Police had been outside the house since Friday lunchtime amid reports of a stand-off. Neighbouring properties were evacuated.

Mr Govan was remanded in custody.

Supt Robbie McGregor, Falkirk area commander, said Mr Govan was detained as part of an on-going criminal investigation.

He said: "A 45-year-old man has been detained following what was a prolonged operation.

"Our primary concern at all times has been the safety of the public especially in the immediate vicinity and a number of precautions were taken as a result.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this inquiry."
