Police name dead road crash boy

The A73

A boy who died after the car he was travelling in hit a cow and spun out of control has been named by police.

Five-year-old Ben Hastie, from Carluke in North Lanarkshire, died following the accident on the A73 on Saturday.

He was being driven by his father, 41, through the village of Newmains at about 0350 BST when their Volkswagen Golf hit the animal.

Ben was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he later died. His father was treated for minor injuries.

The cow is thought to have been found dead.
