One of the most important collections of Scottish Victorian art has gone on display in Dundee.
About 30 pieces from the Orchar collection are being exhibited at Broughty Castle.
James Guthrie Orchar was a city engineer who made equipment for the textile industry.
The new exhibition features work from the Scott Lauder Group, along with 20th Century paintings by Philip de Laszlo and James McIntosh Patrick.
Arts and heritage manager John Stewart-Young said: "It's the most complete collection of its type in Scotland. It comprises 387 works and he [Orchar] obviously had a very good eye and bought well.
"The other thing to note is that at that time, we're talking into the 1870s and 1880s, Dundee was a notable arts centre.
"The paintings have been selected to reflect something of the character of the man, so we have a bust of Orchar, we have paintings by him, we also have paintings that relate to the sea because of the situation of the gallery in Broughty Castle."
