Young driver dies in road smash

An 18-year-old man has died following a road crash in Falkirk.

The teenager was driving a red Seat Ibiza east along Lochgreen Road when it left the road and smashed into a tree.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police said the accident happened at about 1945 on Thursday close to the junction with Greenbank Road.

The name of the dead driver, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, has not yet been released. No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed for about five hours to allow an investigation to be carried out.
