An 18-year-old who killed a stranger in a violent and unprovoked stamping attack has been jailed for life.
Wayne Melvin, who was earlier found guilty of murdering of 51-year-old Robert Smith in Dundee last May, was ordered to serve at least 15 years.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Hardie said the incident had been a particularly savage murder.
Forensic experts found a perfect imprint from the sole of Melvin's trainers on the dead man's face.
The teenager, of Dundee's Ballindean Road, repeatedly kicked and stamped on Mr Smith causing horrific facial injuries.
Previous convictions
Call centre worker Mr Smith, described as a mild-mannered, well-liked person, was attacked on the city's Brook Street as he walked home after a weekend drink in the city centre.
Lord Hardie told Melvin: "Hopefully it will be on your conscience for the rest of your life and you will think every day what you did to that man."
Pathologists who examined the death at first thought Mr Smith, of Blackness Road, had been the victim of a car crash because his injuries were so severe.
Melvin was on probation at the time and had previous convictions including an assault and a firearms offence.
