Police take fake DVDS from market

Central Scotland Police mounted a joint operation with FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) to recover the DVDs from an identified stall.

New cinema releases such as Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver and Oceans 13 were among the haul.

Police said a 33-year-old man from the East Kilbride area has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Det Sgt David Nolan, of the force's E Crime Unit, said: "We are determined to stamp out this illegal crime and make sure counterfeit goods are taken off the streets.

'Major threat'

"It is thanks to a joint working partnership with FACT that we have been able to seize such a large haul."

John McGowan, Senior Investigator with FACT, added: "The digital entertainment industry is the fastest growing industry in the world and the major threat to the future of this industry in Scotland is criminal piracy.

"Central Scotland Police are ahead of the game with their E Crime Unit and it is operations such as this which will secure Scotland's future in that industry"
