City flats are reduced to rubble

The last of a series of tower blocks to be demolished on a housing estate in Dundee have been reduced to rubble.

Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association is replacing the flats, in the Ardler area of the city, with new houses.

Most of the 298 flats in the 17-storey Baberton, Barassie and Carnoustie blocks have long been empty, although the last tenants only left in January.

An exclusion zone was introduced before the demolition was carried out by Safedem on Sunday morning.

About 500 people had to move out of their homes temporarily to allow the work to be carried out.

A number of other similar tower blocks, which had dominated the city's skyline since the 1960s, have already been demolished.
