Warmer homes plan for poor areas

Pensioner by a gas fire Falkirk Council tenants in "fuel poor" households are to receive warmer homes as part of two pilot projects.

A total of 1,200 homes will receive cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and a benefits check to help tenants maximise their income.

The homes included are in Camelon, Falkirk town centre, Hallglen, Dawson, Middlefield and Zetland and Inchyra in Grangemouth.

The pilots will help the council meet energy efficiency standards.

Funding for the projects is being provided by Scottish Gas, Scottish Power and Warm Deal funding through Communities Scotland.

Efficiency measures

A further 200 households will benefit from a scheme which provides energy efficiency measures for non-traditional build houses which are unsuitable for cavity wall insulation.

The Homepack Scheme provides hot water cylinder jackets, draught-proofing kits, radiator reflector panels and low energy light bulbs.

Cllr Pat McCafferty said: "Everyone is concerned about rising energy prices but, for some of our tenants, fuel bills are a real worry.

"These energy efficiency projects will benefit around 1,400 households and help many people keep their homes warmer."
