Wounded swan undergoes operation

X-ray image of Lucky the swan Animal experts have carried out a life-saving operation on a wounded swan which was rescued in Falkirk.

The two-hour procedure was carried out at Edinburgh University's Royal Dick Vet School in Midlothian.

An x-ray examination revealed three shotgun pellets in the bird's head and that it had swallowed two, three-barb, fishing hooks.

The cob has been named "Lucky" by students at the school for surviving its traumatic experience.
