Dundee film shortlisted for award

Young Anes A film depicting life as a struggling young mother in Dundee has been shortlisted for an award at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Young Anes is a 15-minute observational documentary exploring life on the breadline in the city's Whitfield area.

It has been placed in the running for the festival's Saltire Short Scottish Documentary Award.

The feature was produced by local film maker Dylan Drummond, who was inspired by a community project in Dundee.

Mr Drummond, who also works as part of the Dundee Rep Theatre's education and community team, said the film depicted some of the deprivation that still exists in Whitfield, but aimed to deliver a positive message.

He said: "As a film-maker, when I first went along to the Healthy Living Initiative groups that facilitate the young mums, I was immediately impressed by their candid nature and the way the group was tackling community issues for themselves."

The film will premiere on 19 August at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh.
