Council objects to wind farm plan

Wind turbine Councillors have objected to plans for a wind farm in a neighbouring local authority area.

Perth and Kinross Council also urged Scottish ministers to rule on the proposed 13-turbine development near Tillicoultry, in Clackmannanshire.

The proposals have so far received about 90 representations from the public, most of them objections.

The development has been proposed at Burnfoot Hill by renewable energy company Wind Prospect Developments.

On Wednesday, Perth and Kinross Council's development and control committee approved a recommendation that the Scottish Executive should make the decision on whether the application is granted.

The move follows controversy over the council's earlier refusal to grant permission for a clutch of wind farms in the Ochill Hills.

Public inquiry due

Although it would be sited within the Clackmannanshire Council area, the proposed wind farm would be close to the Perth and Kinross Council boundary.

The site is also near the proposed location for a wind farm at Greenknowes, which was earlier refused by Perthshire councillors.

Clackmannanshire Council, which has yet to take a formal position on the Burnfoot Hill plans, has the right to appeal against ministers calling the proposals in.

The application came as arrangements are due to be made later this month for a public inquiry into Perth and Kinross's refusal to grant planning permission for wind farms in the Ochills.

The inquiry is expected to be held towards the end of 2006.
