A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body of a man found in a burn in Kirkcudbrightshire.

Two hillwalkers alerted emergency services after spotting the remains in Kirkbean Glen, near Criffel Hill on Saturday.

The body has yet to be identified, but police believe it may be that of John Peckham, a 51-year-old local man.

A poster campaign was launched to trace him after he was last seen at Parkdean Caravan Park at Southerness on 20 June.

Due to the difficult access, the body was recovered using rope rescue equipment.

Kirkcudbright and Whitehaven Coastguard teams helped with the operation.
