School bus accident victim named

Police have identified an elderly motorist killed in a crash involving a school bus in the Scottish Borders.

Walter Lewis Combe, 79, of Teviot Crescent, Hawick, died in the incident on the A7 south of the town at about 1615 GMT on Wednesday.

The 26-seater bus was carrying five school pupils when it was in collision with Mr Combe's Peugeot car.

The children were said to have been "shaken" but otherwise unhurt. The bus driver was treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed for more than seven hours while a full accident investigation took place at the scene.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed a report had been sent to the procurator fiscal.
