Water supplies cut during works

Water supplies to more than 1,000 homes in Berwickshire will be cut off during the night on weekdays over the next fortnight due to maintenance works.

Scottish Water have apologised to customers in the Duns, Chirnside and Foulden areas who will be without water between 2200 and 0600 BST each night.

Households have been advised to store drinking water and not to use dishwashers during these times.

The company said the work was being done at night to minimise disruption.

Craig Lawson, Scottish Water's regional manager in the Borders, said: "We would ask customers to be patient with us while we perform this essential programme of work.

"The project will deliver long term benefit to customers in the area with a supply of clearer, fresher drinking water.

"In order to minimise the disruption caused by this work, we will have teams of engineers working throughout the night to ensure supply is lost during these reduced demand hours."

All properties directly affected should have received a letter in advance warning them about the work to clear sediment from the water pipes.

Mr Lawson said that some customers may notice their water is discoloured once the work is complete. He said this is caused by natural sediment within the pipe and the water will still be safe to drink.
