A 17-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from the open boot of a moving car in southern Scotland.
The incident happened on the B797 Mennock to Elvanfoot road at about 1215 BST on Sunday.
The boy was taken to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment to his injuries.
A police spokesman said they were still trying to establish why the teenager had been in the boot of the car and what had caused his fall.
The boy, from the Sanquhar area, was in the boot of a blue Nissan car when the incident took place.
Insp Iain Fraser said: "The boy was sitting in the open boot of the vehicle when he fell out as it began to move.
"The car was being driven by a local 72-year-old man."
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
