National poet scoops book award

Edwin Morgan

The poet Edwin Morgan has won the Sundial Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year award for his latest collection of poetry.

The writer and comedian Rory Bremner presented Professor Morgan with the £25,000 award at the Borders Book Festival in Melrose on Wednesday.

The 87-year-old is Scotland's first Makar, or national poet.

His collection, A Book of Lives, covers issues ranging from the war on terror to the Scottish Parliament's opening.
