Biker killed in remote road crash

St Mary's Loch

A motorcyclist killed on a remote rural road in the Scottish Borders has been identified by police.

Duncan Cowan, 51, of Bonnington Road, Edinburgh, died in the incident on the A708 Selkirk to St Mary's Loch road on Thursday evening.

No other vehicles were involved and Mr Cowan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lothian and Borders Police said a full accident investigation had been carried out and the road was closed for approximately four hours.

"We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to get in contact," said a spokeswoman.

"A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."

It is the first fatality involving a motorcyclist on roads in the Borders this year.
