Commuter impact review proposed

Waverley Station

A working group is to be set up to look at the impact of Edinburgh commuters moving to the Scottish Borders.

It comes as plans progress to reopen the Waverley railway line between the capital and Tweedbank near Galashiels.

Scottish Borders Council is looking to set up a panel to study the effect on the region as a whole.

It will also look at the rising number of elderly residents and migrant workers throughout the area in order to plan any future developments.

SBC is recommending the creation of a working group to review the change in demographics of the region.

It would develop a clearer picture of the make-up of the area and try to understand the implications of any changes.

The working group could include people from private business, voluntary sector and other public agencies as well as council representatives.

The council will decide whether to progress with the plans at a meeting later this week.
