Child's voice sparks sea search

Coastguard rescue helicopter

A large-scale rescue operation has been mounted off Shetland after a child's voice was heard calling for help on the shipping radio distress channel.

But Shetland coastguard have said the call could have been a hoax.

The coastguard helicopter along with rescue craft and other boats searched the area near Yell Sound for two hours but found nothing.

Coastguards say if the call was a fake, it has cost tens of thousands of pounds in wasted time.
