Trump bids for more golfing land

The Trump Organisation is offering to buy more land as part of the £1bn golf development in Aberdeenshire.

US tycoon Donald Trump's proposal at Menie has seen residents approached this week, with half a dozen letters requesting "amicable" discussions.

Aberdeenshire Council confirmed it had been advised further applications for outline planning permission for additional areas were to be lodged.

It is understood compulsory purchases could be used as a last resort.

It is believed about 50 acres are being sought.

'Amicable discussion'

The letters to some residents, seen by BBC Scotland, state: "We have previously approached you regarding the possibility of buying this land.

"We still welcome the opportunity to have an amicable discussion regarding these matters."

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: "We have been advised that the applications will be for development on areas of land not currently owned by the organisation.

"It is important to stress that land ownership is not a planning consideration. If the applications are supported, it would be up to the developer to ensure the land is in their ownership before proceeding with development."

Mr Trump has vowed to build the world's greatest golf venue.

The plans for two championship golf courses, 950 holiday homes and 500 houses were rejected by an Aberdeenshire Council committee before being called in by the Scottish Government and approved.
