Lasers targeted landing aircraft

Green laser

Two passenger planes landed safely at Aberdeen Airport after the pilots reported being distracted on their approach by powerful lasers.

It is thought the lasers were being directed from the Mastrick or Northfield area of the city.

Grampian Police said the two incidents happened between 1800 to 1830 GMT on Tuesday.

Both pilots managed to bring their aircraft down safely and anybody with information is asked to come forward.

An Eastern Airways spokesman explained: "As two of our flights were approaching Aberdeen for landing a laser light from the ground was aimed at both aircraft.

"Both of our pilots reported the incidents to police as they were extremely concerned that safety could be compromised during the landing approach due to the irresponsible actions of an individual on the ground."
