Orkney athlete's 72-hour triumph
A renowned endurance athlete from Orkney won the 25th running of a gruelling 72-hour race held in Arizona.
William Sichel, 55, ran almost 270 miles and beat dozens of other competitors in the Across the Years event.
The race was held at Litchfield Park in Phoenix, with Sichel finishing almost 34 miles ahead of the second-placed runner.
Sichel has lived in the Orkney island of Sanday since 1982.
He patiently made his way through the Across the Years field, before stretching into the lead.
The event was held over the New Year.
