Mother's hostage freedom relief

The mother of an Aberdeen oil worker taken hostage in Nigeria has spoken of her relief after he was released.

Bruce Strachan, from Cults, was seized in November in the Port Harcourt area, but was set free by his captors.

His mother, Moyra Strachan, told BBC Scotland of the phonecall from her freed son: "It was just a marvellous call to get."

Mr Strachan works for Aberdeen-based Global Lifting Services, who confirmed he was safe and well.

Mr Strachan's mother said: "I am glad Bruce has been released and hope to see him in the coming weeks.

"He did not say very much, he was tired. It was just a quick call to say he was released and all right."

She added of the call: "How would a mother feel?"

Global Lifting Services said they were glad the situation had been resolved.

A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed to BBC Scotland that a Briton had been safely released.
