Shetland issues equal pay offers

More than 3,000 Shetland Islands Council staff are being sent letters setting out new single status pay proposals.

The aim is to give men and women an equal salary for the same value of work for manual and office jobs.

The proposals have been the focus of talks for the past 18 months.

Staff will now be consulted about the new proposals over the next four weeks, with letters setting out their proposed new pay grade.

Chief executive Morgan Goodlad said: "With the very considerable investment of up to £4m in staff pay, it is the best package offered anywhere in Scotland, I hope staff will be able to support it."
