Underage drinkers caught in city

Police found teenagers as young as 13 had been drinking during a clampdown on "youth annoyance" in the Hazlehead and Airyhall areas Aberdeen.

The weekend operation saw lager as well as soft drinks laced with alcohol recovered.

Police said the majority of youths were well behaved, but a minority were causing problems.

One 15-year-old girl who was drunk and incapable had to be taken home to her parents.

Local councillor Martin Greig said: "The lives of local people have been badly affected by reckless and disorderly activities. Too often young people have difficulties finding anywhere to go and socialise. We need much more facilities for young people."

He said he was "extremely concerned" to hear that young people as young as 13 appeared to be drinking.
