Girl seriously hurt in accident

A teenage girl badly injured after an accident with a car on an Aberdeenshire road is being airlifted to hospital.

The victim, thought to be 15, was injured on the A947 at Birkenhills, south of Turriff, at about 1600 BST.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said it appeared the young girl had been knocked down and was initially being treated at the scene.

She was being flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. Grampian Police appealed for witnesses.
