Arrest over city centre stabbing

A suspect has been arrested after a 24-year-old man was left in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in Aberdeen city centre.

Grampian Police said the victim suffered serious facial and head injuries in a fight in Marischal Court at 2330 BST on Tuesday.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he underwent surgery.

A police spokesman confirmed a 34-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The spokesman said the injured man was a Polish national. Officers have not yet been able to interview him in hospital, but it is hoped they will soon be able to.

Initial inquiries do not indicate the incident was as a result of the man's nationality.
