A major gas leak is being investigated in the centre of Aberdeen.
Engineers were called out late on Monday night after a member of the public reported a strong smell on Berryden Road.
The road is likely to remain closed at the junction with Hutcheon Street for at least a couple of days.
Scotia Gas Network is coordinating the emergency operation. A spokeswoman said local residents had not been in danger at any stage.
She added: "Our engineers have been working on it overnight, but in order to carry out a full repair and find out where the problem is coming from they have to open up the road.
"Unfortunately Berryden Road is closed at present at the junction with Hutcheon Street. Our engineers will be working 24 hours a day to rectify the problem and repair everything but we do apologise to commuters and people using the road because we understand it is a busy road."
