Shops making a meal of fish art

Customers buying a fish supper from shops across Aberdeen are being given something extra to chew over alongside their meal.

Norwegian artists have created wrappers featuring a fishing industry history for Peacock Visual Arts.

Harking back to days when most fish and chips came wrapped in newspapers, the industry stories will feature at many chip shops and fishmongers.

It is part of an exhibition called By-catch which opens on Friday.

Artists Bjarte Gismarvik and Kathrin Höhne came up with the idea.

Dawn Ingram, of Mike's Famous Fish and Chips Shop in Torry, said: "We were a bit surprised when Peacock asked us to use the By-catch fish wrappers in the shop but we're delighted to be part of the project.

"It's important for local people to understand a little about the fishing industry."

She added: "We're hoping that customers will want to keep coming back so they can collect all six wrappers."
