Alcohol service could be secured

The future of a threatened Aberdeen alcohol project which provides an alternative to police cells or hospital could be secured.

Albyn House had £140,000 of funding cut by Aberdeen City Council on the grounds it was underused.

It was then given a stay of execution by NHS Grampian.

Aberdeen North SNP MSP Brian Adam has received a letter from the health authority saying that it wants the service to continue.

Mr Adam said: "This is good news for the designated place scheme at Albyn House.

"They run a good service, and a good alternative to dealing with those who have severely abused alcohol - freeing up police time, services and facilities."
